Velocity receives the IMCL 2018 Honor Award

International Making Cities Livable Conferences awarded Velocity the IMCL 2018 Honor Award.

The International Making Cities Livable Council is an interdisciplinary, international network of individuals and cities. The IMCL Conferences bring together city officials, practitioners and scholars in architecture, urban design, planning and urban affairs among others to share experience and ideas, guided by the belief that special attention must be paid to the indispensable role of public spaces in the development of sustainable cities and communities.

Velocity is a project that explores a future that no longer needs to rely so heavily on vehicular traffic by focussing on opportunities to introduce a finer grain network of cycle and pedestrian routes that could potentially be provided along an Oxford to Cambridge rail link. It advances a place-based vision for reimagining how communities could be enriched through the creation of socially cohesive homes and workplaces with an emphasis on the retention and enhancement of the natural environment. Of the project, the judges commented that it “makes a powerful statement about the importance of maintaining character of place while accommodating infill growth” and supported its “inherently deliverability.”
